Objection:
The Qadianis claim that the verse is related to the past, and that the question was asked before the revelation of the verse. They argue that this proves Jesus (peace be upon him) has already passed away, because the question was asked to him before, etc.

Answer:
The verse is talking about the Day of Judgment, when Allah will ask Jesus (peace be upon him) if he told the Christians to worship him and his mother as gods apart from Allah.

قَالَ اللّٰہُ یٰعِیۡسَی ابۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ ءَاَنۡتَ قُلۡتَ لِلنَّاسِ اتَّخِذُوۡنِیۡ وَ اُمِّیَ اِلٰہَیۡنِ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ
(This is the verse where Allah will ask Jesus (peace be upon him) about whether he told people to take him and his mother as gods besides Allah.)

Proof:
هٰذَا یَوۡمُ یَنۡفَعُ الصّٰدِقِیۡنَ صِدۡقُہُمۡ (المائدہ: 119)
“This is the day when the truthful will benefit from their truth.”

This verse refers to the Day of Judgment.

The question and answer will take place on the Day of Judgment, as seen in the references below.

“Māḍī (past tense) is also used in the meaning of present or future tense, especially in cases where the future event is seen by the speaker as certain to happen. In these cases, the verb in the past tense is used to indicate its certainty. There are many such examples in the Quran. For example, Allah says:
إِذۡ قَالَ اللّٰہُ یٰعِیۡسَی ابۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ ءَاَنۡتَ قُلۡتَ لِلنَّاسِ اتَّخِذُوۡنِی وَ اُمِّیَ إِلٰہَیۡنِ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ

(Barahin Ahmadiyya, Part 5, Volume 21, page 159)**

This reference proves that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself admits that this verse refers to the future, meaning the Day of Judgment.

“Now, Jesus will certainly not descend again, because the confession he will make on the Day of Judgment, as mentioned in the verse فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیۡتَنِیۡ, clearly acknowledges that he will not return to this world.”

(Kishtee Noah, Volume 19, page 76)

This shows that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad agrees that the question and answer will take place on the Day of Judgment.

“Because the Quranic verses clearly indicate that this question will be asked to Jesus on the Day of Judgment.”

(Haqiqat-ul-Wahi, Volume 22, page 33)

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has explicitly stated that this verse shows that the question will happen on the Day of Judgment.

Conclusion:
From these references, it is clear that the question and answer between Allah and Jesus (peace be upon him) will take place on the Day of Judgment, as acknowledged by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad himself. Therefore, it is confirmed that the verse refers to future events, not the past.
