Qadiani Objection:
Qadianis object to a hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reportedly said:
“Masjidi Akhir al-Masajid”
“My mosque is the last of mosques.”
They argue that if the Prophet’s ﷺ mosque is the last, then why are mosques still being built today? Similarly, if he is Khatam an-Nabiyyin (Seal of the Prophets), couldn’t there be prophets after him, just as new mosques are still being constructed?
Response 1: The Tradition of Prophets and the Uniqueness of Masjid al-Nabawi
It was a noble tradition of all previous prophets to build a mosque. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ established Masjid al-Nabawi, he was the final prophet, and thus no prophet was to come after him. Therefore, he said:
“مسجدی آخر المساجد”
“My mosque is the last of the mosques.”
This means that his mosque is the final in the series of mosques built by prophets, not that no mosque can be built afterward.
So, rather than supporting continued prophethood, this hadith actually affirms the finality of prophethood.
Response 2: Complete Hadith and Proper Context
Qadianis often quote selectively. The full narration clarifies everything:
“أنا خاتم الأنبياء، ومسجدي خاتم مساجد الأنبياء”
“I am the Seal of the Prophets, and my mosque is the seal of the mosques of the prophets.”Reference:
Kanz al-Ummal, Hadith No. 34999 – Chapter: Virtue of the Two Harams and Masjid al-Aqsa
This narration is from Hazrat Aisha (RA) and clearly connects the finality of prophethood with the finality of prophetic mosques.
Another supporting narration is:
“آخر مساجد الأنبياء”
“The last of the mosques of the prophets.”Reference:
Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib
These narrations confirm that no prophet will come, and therefore no mosque of a prophet will be built after the Prophet ﷺ.
Summary:
This narration does not indicate the continuation of prophethood or allow for new prophets. In fact, it reinforces the Prophet ﷺ’s own statement:
- Just as no prophet will come after me,
- no prophetic mosque will be added after mine.
Hence, this hadith stands as a strong argument in favor of the Finality of Prophethood, and completely refutes Qadiani misinterpretations.
