If it is said that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Seal of the Prophets, how can a prophet come after him? The answer is that if you believe in the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) as a prophet in the end times, this belief is incorrect. Your belief that the chain of revelation will continue for forty more years, even longer than the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is completely wrong. The verse “But he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets” and the hadith “There is no prophet after me” are clear evidence of its falsity. We strongly oppose such beliefs and firmly believe in this verse.

A Rectification of a Mistake from Ruhani Khazain, Volume 18, Page 207

Respected readers! The meaning of this writing by Mirza Qadiani is that the belief in the second coming of Jesus (peace be upon him) contradicts the verse of Khatam al-Nabiyyin (Seal of the Prophets) and that holding the belief that the same Jesus (peace be upon him) will return is sinful. However, this statement is either the result of Mirza Sahib’s ignorance and lack of knowledge or an intentional attempt to mislead people. Dear readers! By declaring the belief in the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) as sinful, Mirza Qadiani has also proven his self-proclaimed prophethood to be false. You might ask how this is possible. Let us first look at Mirza Sahib’s claim of prophethood and its foundation. Mirza Qadiani writes:

“Remember, many people get deceived by the name of ‘prophet’ in my claim and think that I have claimed the same prophethood which was given directly to the prophets of earlier times, but they are mistaken. This is not my claim. Rather, due to the wisdom and will of God Almighty, for the purpose of proving the perfection of the spiritual gifts of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), this rank has been granted to me, and through the blessings of his spiritual favor, I have been raised to the level of prophethood. Therefore, I cannot be called just a prophet. In one sense, I am a prophet, and in another sense, I am an ummati (follower). My prophethood is a reflection of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), not the original prophethood. For this reason, in both the hadith and my revelations, as my name has been called a prophet, it has also been called ummati (follower) so that it is clear that every perfection I have has come to me through following the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and through him.”

Haqiqat al-Wahi from Ruhani Khazain, Volume 22, Page 154.

It is clear from the writings of Mirza Qadiani that his claim to prophethood was based on obedience and following. In his writings, he stated that Islam is the only religion that grants humans the privilege of communicating with Allah. He claimed that the communication of Allah will never cease, and there will always be a group of people with whom Allah continues to converse. Mirza Qadiani also said that if God gave him the title of “prophet,” there is no harm in it, as his name was also given as “Ummah,” which indicates that his prophethood is actually the result of following Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Barahin Ahmadiyya, Part 5 from Ruhani Khazain, Volume 21, Pages 354, 355.

Respected readers! On one hand, Mirza Qadiani claims that prophethood was granted to him due to his complete following of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and on the other hand, he maintained the belief in the life of Jesus (peace be upon him) until 1890, only to later declare this very belief as sinful and a major form of polytheism. Is this truly what is meant by complete following? Dear readers! Let us now look at the evidence that Mirza Sahib remained firm in his belief in the life of Jesus (peace be upon him) until 1890. In his book Barahin Ahmadiyya, Mirza Qadiani writes:

“He it is who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it prevail over all religions. This verse is a prophecy regarding the physical and political dominance of Jesus (peace be upon him). The complete triumph of Islam that has been promised will manifest through the return of Jesus. When Jesus (peace be upon him) returns to this world, through him, Islam will spread across all regions and corners of the earth. But it has been shown to me that I, in my humble state, in my submission, trust, and selflessness, and through the signs and illuminations, am a reflection of the first life of Jesus. My nature and the nature of Jesus are very similar, as if they are two parts of the same essence or two fruits of the same tree.”

Barahin Ahmadiyya, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 1, Page 593, by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani

In the above passage, the particularly noteworthy point is that the verse from the Holy Quran is definitive, and Mirza Sahib has explained it as an inspiration by saying, “It has been revealed to this humble one.” According to him, this revelation is certain, and he interprets this verse as a prophecy of the physical and bodily return of Jesus (peace be upon him). Therefore, both the Quranic verse and Mirza Sahib’s inspired interpretation combine to make the return of Jesus (peace be upon him) physical and certain, leaving no room for doubt among his followers.

In the same book, Mirza Qadiani further writes:

“Perhaps your Lord will have mercy upon you, and if you return, We will return, and We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.”

The will of Allah is directed towards showing mercy to those who accept it. If you turn to sin and rebellion, We will turn to punishment and retribution. And We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers. This verse points towards the majestic return of Jesus (peace be upon him). That is, if the path of kindness, gentleness, and grace is not accepted, and if they turn away from the truth that has become clear through decisive arguments and evident signs, then a time will come when Allah will use severity and anger for the criminals. Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend with great majesty, and all the paths will be made clear, and the streets will be swept of all impurities and wrongdoings. The Divine Majesty will eliminate the seed of misguidance with His overwhelming wrath and power.

Barahin Ahmadiyya, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 1, Pages 601-602, by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani

In the above writings, Mirza Qadiani not only presents his belief in the return of Jesus (peace be upon him) based on the Quranic verse but also supports it with his own revelation. However, when he abandoned the belief in the life of Jesus and adopted the belief in his death, he wrote:

“Rather, like you, due to the limited knowledge of humanity, I too held the belief that Jesus (peace be upon him) would descend from the sky. and in previous parts of Barahin Ahmadiyya, I wrote and published that same mistaken belief as my opinion.”

Barahin Ahmadiyya, Part 5, Page 111, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 21, Page 111

However, in the introduction to Barahin Ahmadiyya, while mixing statements, Mirza Qadiani writes:

“The book Barahin Ahmadiyya, which the author has written under divine inspiration and commission from Allah, with the purpose of reforming and renewing the religion, is accompanied by an advertisement offering ten thousand rupees. The first three hundred strong and rational arguments, whose grandeur and value are evident, such that if any opponent of Islam refutes these arguments, the advertisement promises a reward of ten thousand rupees.”

Majmua Ishtiharat, Volume 1, Page 27, New Edition

Furthermore, in another place, Mirza Qadiani publishes an advertisement titled “We and Our Book” and writes:

“Now, the trustee and caretaker of this book, both outwardly and inwardly, is none other than the Lord of the Worlds.”

Majmua Ishtiharat, Volume 1, Page 77, New Edition

At another point, the late Mirza Qadiani mentions his book in the following manner:

“Near the time when I was still in the early part of my life, engaged in acquiring knowledge, I saw the last Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream. At that time, I had a religious book in my hand that seemed to be of my own authorship. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) looked at the book and asked in Arabic, ‘What is the name you have given to this book?’ I replied, ‘I have named it Qutbi,’ which, in its interpretation, became clear after the publication of this advertising book, that it is a book as steadfast and unshakeable as the polar star, whose complete stability has been presented, and for which an advertisement of ten thousand rupees has been issued.

In short, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) took the book from me, and when it was in his hands, it turned into a beautiful and colorful fruit, resembling a guava but the size of a watermelon. When the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) tried to divide this fruit into pieces to distribute, honey flowed from it in such quantity that his blessed hands were filled with honey up to his elbows. Then a dead person, who had been lying outside the door, was revived through the miracle of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and stood behind me. I stood in front of the Holy Prophet as a supplicant stands before a ruler, and the Holy Prophet, with great dignity and authority, was seated on a chair, like a powerful wrestler.

The conclusion of the dream is that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) gave me a piece of the fruit, which I was to give to the person who had been revived, and I gave it to the newly revived person. He ate it there. Then, when the revived person had eaten his piece, I saw that the Holy Prophet’s chair had risen much higher from its original position, and just as the rays of the sun shine forth, the Holy Prophet’s blessed forehead began to glow continuously, indicating the freshness and progress of the Islamic faith. Then, as I was observing that light, my eyes opened.

Praise be to Allah for that. This is the dream that was narrated to around two hundred people during those days, including fifty or more Hindus, many of whom are still alive today and know very well that during that time, Barahin Ahmadiyya had not even been named, nor was there any idea that a religious book would be compiled and an advertisement of ten thousand rupees issued to prove its stability and truth. However, it is evident that the things the dream hinted at have now, to some extent, come true, and the Qutbi mentioned in the dream is now fully established. In the face of opposition, the promise of a great reward has been offered, completing the proof of Islam over the adversaries. And for those aspects of the dream that have yet to manifest, everyone should wait for their fulfillment, as heavenly matters can never be delayed.”

Ruhani Khazain, Volume 1, Pages 275-276

Dear Qadiani friends! Think calmly and impartially, and ask yourselves, could the beliefs outlined in a book that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani claims to have written under divine commission, with Allah Himself being the caretaker of the book, be incorrect? Moreover, this is a book in which, according to Mirza Qadiani, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) expressed his happiness in a dream upon seeing it. Can the beliefs described in such a book be wrong, especially when the book offers a reward of ten thousand rupees in 1884 for refuting its arguments?

Qadiani friends, think for a moment—if the belief in the life of Jesus (peace be upon him) was wrong, why did Mirza Qadiani publish it in his book, especially when he claims that “Allah does not let me remain in error for even the blink of an eye, and He protects me from every wrong statement”?

“And by Allah, I know that I have never spoken except what Allah has said, and I have never said anything that contradicts His will, and nothing that opposes His will has ever come from my pen in my life.”

At the same time, Mirza Qadiani himself writes about the beliefs and ideas presented in this book, stating:

“The fifth benefit of this book is that by reading it, the truths and deeper meanings of the Divine Word will be known, and the wisdom and knowledge of this sacred book, through the luminous light of which Islam shines, will be fully revealed to everyone. All the arguments and proofs contained in it are derived from the clear and decisive verses of the Holy Quran, and every rational argument presented here is one that God has given in His Word. For this reason, almost twelve parts (Juz) of the Quran have been incorporated into this book. In essence, this book is a profound commentary on the Quran, revealing its deeper meanings, secrets, wisdom, and high philosophy. By studying this book, the true seeker will clearly see the incomparable and unparalleled status of the Holy Quran, like the shining sun.”

Barahin Ahmadiyya, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 1, Pages 130-131

Dear friends, if the belief in the life of Jesus (peace be upon him) presented in this book is wrong, then we must also consider Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani’s claim of being divinely appointed as false. Would you accept that the claim Mirza Qadiani made during his time of being appointed by Allah and being a reformer (Mujaddid) was baseless? Would you be willing to say that the prophetic vision Mirza Qadiani described in this book, where he mentions receiving a prophecy from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was just a deception and propaganda?

Dear readers, let us now clarify that the belief in the second coming of Jesus (peace be upon him) is not at all contrary to the Islamic doctrine of the finality of Prophethood. But before that, we present again the writings of Mirza Qadiani to highlight how he attempted to mislead others. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad writes:

“If it is said that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Seal of the Prophets, how can another prophet come after him? The answer is that no new or old prophet can come in the same way as you people believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend in the final times and you regard him as a prophet. Moreover, you believe that the chain of prophethood and revelation will continue for forty years, even exceeding the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Such a belief is undoubtedly a sin, and the verse ‘But he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets’ and the Hadith ‘There is no prophet after me’ serve as clear evidence of the falsehood of such a belief. However, we strongly oppose such beliefs and we have complete and true faith in this verse.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah: 4)

(Surah Al-‘Imran 3:136)

(Surah Aal-E-Imran, 3:49)

Dear readers, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad writes that “And then, in this situation, they believe him to be a prophet and even hold the belief that the chain of prophethood will continue for forty years after the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him), with the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) being extended.” The reason for this is the belief of some that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was sent as a prophet to the children of Israel before the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Regarding the status of Jesus (peace be upon him), it must be understood that he was a prophet sent by Allah before Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), not after him. Belief in all the previous prophets is a fundamental part of being a believer. This is why Allah mentions in the Qur’an, when describing the traits of believers and the righteous, He says:

“Who believe in what has been revealed to you, and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain.”
Surah Al-Baqarah: 4

“Say, ‘We have believed in Allah and in what has been revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Ibrahim, Isma’il, Ishaq, Ya’qub, and the descendants, and in what was given to Musa, Isa, and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have surrendered.’
Surah Al-‘Imran 3:136

Now, regarding the question of Jesus (peace be upon him) being a messenger, Allah says:

“He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel, and will send him to the Children of Israel, saying: ‘Indeed, I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. Indeed, I will create for you from clay [the figure of] a bird, then I will breathe into it, and it will be a bird by the permission of Allah. And I will cure the blind and the leper, and I will give life to the dead by the permission of Allah. And I will inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed, in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.'”
Surah Aal-E-Imran, 3:49

This verse explains the miracles of Jesus (peace be upon him) and his message to his people. He was given the knowledge of the Book, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel and was sent as a messenger to the children of Israel.

Now, the belief that Jesus (peace be upon him) will descend is not contradictory to the Islamic belief in the finality of prophethood. When he descends, he will not bring a new law or religion but will follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Hadith:

It is narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“Jesus will remain on earth for forty years after his descent, then he will die, and the Muslims will offer his funeral prayer and bury him.”
Musnad Abi Dawood Tayalisi, Hadith 2664

Clarification:
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, in his writing, attempts to mislead people by suggesting that Muslims believe that the prophethood will continue for forty years after the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him). However, I have already clarified that the revelation to Jesus (peace be upon him) after his descent will not be the revelation of prophethood but rather a form of divine inspiration (Wahy-e-Wilayat). Furthermore, Mirza Qadiani himself acknowledged this tradition when he wrote that:

“The hadith only indicates that the Promised Messiah will remain on earth for forty years after his claim.”

Tuhfah Golraviyah, Ruhani Khazain, Volume 17, Page 311

Dear Qadiani friends! Now let us examine when Mirza Ghulam Ahmad first claimed to be the Messiah and how long he lived after that claim. The first book that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad wrote was Brahīni Aḥmadiyya, which was published in 1297 AH. In this book, he acknowledges the belief that Jesus (peace be upon him) was raised alive to the heavens and will return near the Day of Judgment. However, later in the book, he clarifies his views regarding the same belief, stating:

“Indeed, I too, like you, held the belief that Jesus (peace be upon him) would descend from the heavens because of the limited human knowledge. And in the earlier parts of Brahīni Aḥmadiyya, I mistakenly wrote and published this wrong belief as my own opinion.”

Brahīni Aḥmadiyya, Part 5, p. 111, Ruhānī Khazā’in, Volume 21, p. 111

The first book in which the claim of the Promised Messiah was made is “Fath-e-Islam”, which has 1308 AH written on its cover. Following the publication of this book, objections were raised by the Muslim community, and to substantiate his claim, Mirza Sahib published the book “Izala-e-Auham”, also dated 1308 AH on its cover. Prior to these two books, no claim of Messiah-ship is found in Mirza Sahib’s writings, and Mirza Sahib passed away in 1326 AH. Now, after his claim of being the Messiah, how long did he live? Not forty years, but only eighteen years. Hence, we must conclude that his claim was false, as he himself admitted that the Promised Messiah would live for forty years after his claim.

Dear readers! Now, we clarify in another way that the belief in the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) does not contradict the verse “وَلَكِنْ رَّسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ” and the hadith “لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدِي”.

Dear readers! According to the Constitution of Pakistan, it is mandatory for every Pakistani to appear in court when summoned by the judiciary. This is a general law, whereas under Article 248 of the Constitution, the President of Pakistan is exempt from this general law. Examples of exceptions from the general law can also be found in the Qur’an.

Allah Almighty has stated a general principle in the Qur’an:

“كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ وَ نَبْلُوکُم بِالشَّرِّ وَ الْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةً وَ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ”
(الانبیاء:35)
Every soul shall taste death, and We will test you with evil and with good as trial, and to Us you will be returned.

In another verse, Allah has used the word “نَفْس” (soul) for Himself:

Let not the believers take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. And whoever does that has nothing with Allah, except that you protect yourselves against them, taking precautions. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the final return.

The Day when every soul will find what it has done of good present, and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between it and that evil was a far distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is kind to the servants.

Say, “To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth?” Say, “To Allah. He has decreed upon Himself mercy. He will surely gather you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.” Those who have lost themselves do not believe.

And when those come to you who believe in Our signs, say, “Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy. That He who does evil in ignorance, then repents after it and corrects himself, indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.”

Dear readers! I have presented four verses in front of you in which Allah Almighty has used the word “نَفْس” (soul) for Himself. Now, according to the general law, every soul must taste death, but Allah Almighty will never die. Allah has excluded His own self from the law of death:

“كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإكْرَامِ”
(سورة الرحمن: 26-27)
Everyone upon it [the earth] will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

Dear readers! Another place where Allah Almighty mentions the general law of human creation is:

“يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِّنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى”
(الحجرات: 13)
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female.

Dear readers! You all know that Allah Almighty gave exception to the general law by creating Jesus (peace be upon him) without a father and Adam (peace be upon him) without parents. Similarly, the general law is stated in the verse “وَلَكِنْ رَّسُولَ اللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ” and the hadith “لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدِي”. However, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself, through his blessed tongue, foretold the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him), thus making an exception to the general law. This is why the belief in the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) does not contradict the concept of the finality of prophethood.
